What I meant when I said that illegal immigrants have the same rights is just a methaphor for the pursuit of happinness. The problem is here and it wont go away. Today it is believed that there are 12 million of unducomented persons in the US (Pawlick and Finley). What does the US do with all those people? it is very unrealistic to think they all will be deported. All these people not only live here, but contribute to services.Research shows that illegal immigrants contribute more in taxes than they cost the country in social services . One example of this is from 2006 in the State of Texas. 1.4 million undocumented immigrants paid 500 more millions in taxes, more than they received from the govement (Pawlick and Finley). Another good example is the research on California.
Since undocumented migrants generally have low rates of service usage, however
this chilling effect has affected documented more than undocumented migrants. From
1987 to 1992, for instance, 60 percent of legal immigrants surveyed by the Mexican
Migration Project used a hospital but between 1997 and 2002 the share hadfallen to 42
percent. Over the same period the percentage with children in U.S. schoolsfell from 35
percent to 19 percent, and food stamp usage dropped from 15 percent to 5percent.
Welfare usage remained roughly constant at 8 percent to 10 percent. Tax payments,
meanwhile, rose from the already high level of 90 percent to reach 95 percent between
1997 and 2002 (Massey).
This comes to show that most of these people are more likely to contribute than to take away from this country. Furthermore, it is also suggested that by the research that legalizing the 12 million of undocumented immigrants would rescue social security. Also, undocumented immigrants would save money on taxpayers because they will be able to access services like in hospitals, where most of the time undocumented people have to pay full price to see a primary physician. This would translate in to savings to the taxpayers (Pawlick and Finley). All this research also shows that today we are in the same plate economically, illegal or not illegal. Immigrants shouldnt get blame as free loaders. Perhaps Goverment,American Corporation and greed should be the blame.
