Illegal immigration to the United States refers to the act of foreign nationals violating U.S. immigration policies and national laws by entering or remaining in the United States without proper permission from the United States government. Illegal immigrates make up about 12.5 million people in the United States.
Illegal immigration is a crime first of all, and it damages the likelihood of legal immigrants to find jobs, and makes the poor even poorer. We cannot provide high quality education, health care, and retirement security for our own people if we continue to bring in endless numbers of poor, unskilled immigrants. I am not trying to say immigration is a bad thing. I am a legal immigrant myself, but I would be mad that someone chooses an unskilled illegal immigrant a position over me, because the wages are lower for him or her.
Immigration as I see it can be a good or a bad thing, depending on the needs of the nation. Of course this is for the purposes of the collective, not the individual; I do believe that immigrants have the "right" to live where they choose, though whether they get there legally or otherwise is a different matter.
ReplyDeleteOne problem you sort of hint at is that when illegal immigrants, or often legals as well, start taking more jobs, the more established citizens get angry. Hard economic times make crime go up, as well as other problems such as racism... We reveal our true faces when we're up against the wall.
